Baseline Study for the Chalmer’s Project (Client: Compassion International Ghana)
KANKO has been engaged by Compassion International Ghana (CIGH) to conduct the Baseline Study for the Chalmers Project. The key purpose is to establish robust, measurable benchmarks for project monitoring and evaluation across social, economic, spiritual, and poverty dimensions. The assignment seeks to produce a detailed profile of the current situation, including average household income, food security status, and access to basic services, culminating in a determination of the extent of multidimensional poverty. A major deliverable is an assessment of existing community capacity, specifically the presence of savings groups and the level of financial and business management skills among both caregivers and Child Development Workers. This information will directly inform the project's strategy for strengthening economic resilience.
The study’s investigation is holistic and inclusive. While focusing on caregiver households, it actively engages broader community stakeholders to capture a complete picture. The thematic focus is comprehensive, covering livelihood conditions, financial literacy, household/child well-being, and social/spiritual capital. The scope includes a specific mandate to examine gender dynamics—assessing how inequalities affect women caregivers in financial decision-making—and also mandates consideration of disability status to ensure the subsequent project interventions are responsive and equitable for all vulnerable groups. The overall goal is to quantify the challenges caregivers face and understand how these contribute to or mitigate the gender equity gap in the project area.

- Identify Gender and Social Inequalities: Analyze the current status of gender and social inequalities in the project areas, focusing on access to resources, participation in decision-making, and benefits from project interventions.
- Understand Intersectional Impacts: Examine how intersecting identities (gender, age, disability, ethnicity, etc.) affect individuals’ access to project benefits and their ability to participate in and influence project outcomes.
- Develop Inclusive Strategies: Propose strategies to integrate gender and social inclusion into project planning and implementation, ensuring that all community members can participate in and benefit from the project.
